Grade 9/10 Winter Outdoor Days

On Jan 31 and Feb 3, between terms 3 and 4, there will be a pair of unique school days for grade 9 and 10 students.

  • 1 day of University Counselling Bootcamp (grade 10s) or Personal Skills Workshops (grade 9s)

  • 1 day of OED Activities or the Model UN trip/Jr G Bball tournament

Listed below are the activity options planned for the grade 9/10 winter outdoor day. Please read through the options and complete your selections at the bottom.

CARPENTRY WORKSHOP
This session will provide students with a full day carpentry and construction workshop. This will include an introduction to carpentry tools, skills and techniques for woodworking projects, home renovations and more.

CULINARY CREATIONS & ROCK CLIMBING
This option includes two 1/2 day sessions. Students will spend 1/2 the day cooking in the on-campus kitchens with an inspiring chef. The other half of the day will be spent climbing at a local climbing gym.

ECO-VILLAGE ADVENURE
Do you want to grow more of your own food or learn about a variety of food production systems? This visit to the Eco-Village will be a day full of art, food, plants and farming in a sustainable community.

HIKING & WILDERNESS SURVIVAL
This 1-day adventure will include wilderness first aid, backcountry survival techniques, and fire and shelter building. While hiking in local parks and wilderness areas, students will learn from wilderness experts how to thrive in the wilderness.

SEWING, TEXTILES & FASHION REDESIGN
Are you looking re-design, re-purpose or fashion new clothing of your own? Working with local sewing aficionados, students will spend a full day developing their sewing/sewing machine skills as they restore and create new items.

SKI/SNOWBOARD DAY AT MT. WASHINGTON
This is a 1-day recreational ski/snowboard day at Mt. Washington Ski Resort. Students will travel by coach bus to and from Mt. Washington. Estimated costs: Coach bus transportation $70, Lift ticket $40, Rentals $40.

SURF BOARD DESIGN AND SHAPING WORKSHOP
This session will provide students with a full-day workshop on the process of designing, shaping and fiber-glassing a surfboard (an introduction to the OED Make-Surf program)
